I’ll be heading to Vegas in the early part of November for a bachelor party. For the expedition I, as most people do, will be prepping my body up for the expedition.

In order to do so, some goal placing will be in order:

Will I plan on making weight-loss my primary goal? Is toning up the number one priority? I’d say that while both of these things are good ambitions, what’s most important on my list is finding new ways to kill my body fat percentage. Doing so diligently will naturally make the other two things fall into place accordingly.

I spoke to one of my cousins the other day. He’s the same as I: Same build, same laziness, same handsomeness (as goes for all males in our family, duh)… He just happens to be older, taller, and eats better than I do.

If there’s one thing that he’s got down, it’s his discipline when it comes to eating. You see, I make it a point to work out in small, frequent bursts (4-5 times a week for 10-20 minutes each time). But the crap that goes in my body more than cancels out those workouts.

My cousin, on the other hand will make it a point to eat beans as a substitute for rice, drink loads of water daily, and has healthy daily doses of veggies with sprinkles of fruit and lean meats. How often do you think he works out? The answer is: Once. Just once a week – for 40 minutes, tops.

The guy is cut like a Julienne-style veggie (which I think is supposed to be cut really well – I wouldn’t know, I don’t like to put effort into making meals if I don’t have to – but if you must know, see the example pic below).

In fact, at this point it’s probably unfair to compare his physique to mine because he’s more likely in better shape than I am.

If this was a social experiment I’d have to say that diet definitely makes up for a larger portion of keeping body fat down to a minimum. And it does make sense. After all, if there’s no fat going into your body and you’re already burning calories just by waking up and walking around, you’re constantly working at a deficit. That’s the kind of math I can get on board with.

So what does that mean for me? Well, to keep with the “lazy” theme, I just might cut down my workouts to 2-3 a week instead of 4-5 and follow a better standing diet that involves less fries, a little more lettuce – while slightly increasing my alcohol intake to work out my party-muscle for Vegas

Is this the answer for all of my dreams? Probably not, but hey, doing more work goes against my nature. But heck, I’m willing to see where this goes.

Ready or not, Vegas, here I come.

None of my favorite staples of food for 10 days?

Is this a “No-Carb” Diet? Hell no! I plan on carbing it up with good ol’ black beans (you know, the magical fruit that makes your ass smell), nuts, and an assortment of sour candy for all you health-freaks.

Do I expect to lose weight? Not sure.

Will it help me lose fat? Possibly.

If not for those reasons, what the hell is the point of all of this nonsense!? Discipline.

Look: Rice, chips, potatoes and bread are like my four Musketeers (yeah, I’m including D’Artagnan. Fictional knowledge FTW!). I live, breathe and bleed those foods. So I figure that if I can limit myself to straying from them for a mere 10 days, well then I might actually have the gumption to do just about anything. Dream high, I say.

I’ll post up some of the foods I’ll be wafting through over the next 10 days as I struggle to realize how hard I’m making my life right now.

Think I can pull it off?

the three stars represent A-R-T. As in beans, baby.

…it also means U-C-K

Nothing says productivity more than browsing Reddit.com while at work, does it? Hah, no I’m just kidding…

Anyway, as I wasted away my life on the internet I came across this image on one of Reddit’s top articles of the day:

So naturally, my reaction was like:

There was an unusual amount of jealousy and turned-on-ness about this image. Obviously, I had to know more. Turns out this chick’s name is Rita Benavidez (you can check out her blog here). She is 21, a CrossFit Trainer and…. WHAT!? SHE’S LOCAL!? (Literally just miles away from me).

All that aside, she’s one helluva athlete. I mean the girl has no business being on LazyBod as she is by no means a lazy person (Certified Trainier, once-aspired Criminal Justice Major and on her way to be an underwater-welder/Master Diver. Yeah I did my research, so what? Wanna fight about it?). However, she did open my eyes to a world that I’ve only heard about until recently: CrossFit.

“CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide” - CrossFit.com

After Googling that little tidbit of information, I still didn’t know what the hell CrossFit was. That was when I stumbled across one of Rita’s CrossFit videos:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b3AMT3IMro

Turns out that this quick workout is called the “Fran” (don’t ask me why it’s called that. I wouldn’t know. Nor do I care. Look it up and tell me about it in the comments if you really are itching to tell me). It consists of only 2 (count em’: TWO) exercises:

1.) Thrusters

2.) Pull-ups

Now the goal is a simple Time Challenge. 3 sets of 21 reps, then 15 reps, then 9 reps of each exercise, alternating in between. Sounds easy enough. I mean, this girl was able to do it in just about 5 minutes (impressively, I might add). Therefore, this thing should be a cakewalk, right?

…So I tried it myself.

Yes. I admit. That was pretty stupid. I didn’t have a barbell to work with, so I used a couple of 30lb dumbbells that I had at home (laughable weights in comparison to hers) as a replacement for the Thrusters (basically a Squat with a Standing Military-Press mixture).

(Me 2 minutes into the workout)

This workout took me 9 minutes and 42 seconds to complete. And afterwards I was as wrecked as she was at the end of the video. But I do have to say that I felt like this WOD (Workout Of the Day) totally incorporated nearly every muscle in my body in the shortest amount of time.

Well, here’s to beating my time on the next attempt - in a week or so after my body friggin’ recovers:

(Don’t mind the picture. It’s the first image that popped up when I Googled “M100.” Apparently this workout also known as a Soviet Sounding Rocket …so pretty much one in the same, I suppose)

With the vast amount of crap out there in the internet (my site included), I find it very difficult to find gripping information that can hold my interest for longer than ten minutes. Partly because there’s not really much quality information out there to begin with, but mostly because I’m extremely stubborn when it comes to branching out and trying something new.

This seems like a good segway to talk about something short and sweet that did grab my attention. While browsing around, I came across a video from Mike Chang at SixPackShortcuts. Introducing M100′s!

Q: What does the ‘M’ stand for?

A: Mandatory

Q: And the ’100′?

A: 100 repetitions, silly.

That’s right folks, we’ve got ourselves another time challenge. But less talk, more video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7JsO8cafCU

In this workout you’ll be targeting every large muscle group in your legs. The powerhouse in your lower body will burn like no other as you perform these three exercises in quick succession:

Squat Thrusts - 10 reps

Mountain Climbers - 10 reps (1 rep = 1, 2, 3, 4 jumps)

Squat Jumps - 10 reps (1 rep = mini squat then jump)

Repeat until 100 reps is complete (yes that means you’ll do Squat Thrusts one extra set more than the rest).
So what does the burn in your legs mean? Its your fat leaving your body. The stronger the burn the faster the fat loss.

I did my workout in 6 minutes and 24 seconds. How fast can you do yours? Think you can beat me?

Big thanks to Ronnel and Tess for helping today’s video shoot. Take a look at Ronnel give his shot in LazyBod’s first Behind the Scenes footage here:

So I perusing through one of my favorite websites of all time, Reddit.com when I came across an <del>article</del> image that hit an all-too-familiar note with LazyBod.com. To give you a basic rundown, it’s about a normal guy who was overweight (still pretty normal), who likes the hell out of gaming (more normalcy), but was somehow able to shed 50lbs in a matter of FOUR MONTHS.

I know what you’re thinking:

But seriously, if there ever was an advocate for finding lazy ways to get fit (besides me, of course) it would hands-down have to be this guy:

http://i.imgur.com/ascW6.jpg

So take it from us, kids: Pick up that controller, get your game on and get that weight off!

Admittedly, I have an older model of this intuitive device, but that doesn’t really take away from its overall design, so I’m gonna go ahead and do this review anyway if that’s alright with you. It’s not okay? Shut up. It’s okay. Quit playin’.

The Perfect Push Up is supposed to be the convenient and most effective way to do a pushup the right way. The handle grips are rubberized for true grip and the swivel of the top pieces are a lot smoother than I would have expected them to be (zero resistance). In fact, the original design is said to have been designed by a Navy Seal, which gives the piece some street credit, I suppose.

Even though you can perform a great pushup with the device, I fail to see the practical use of the thing. I mean, I bought it for myself, thinking that the rotation of my wrists and the supposed comfort of the grips would make my form so much better. Instead, what I realized was that I was doing a push up with the same awkwardly, un-straight posture but only this time, I struggled to understand the timing of when I was supposed to twist my hands during the exercise. The grips on this original model didn’t help comfort either; in fact, it made it a little more painful, to be quite honest. When my palms are flat on the ground (or of my knuckles are on the ground for that matter), my hands have an evenly distributed weight throughout. However, the grips on the Perfect Push Up force all of the weight to go onto the bottom of the palms, despite the cushion of the rubberized grip.

Don’t get me wrong, despite the cracks of this interesting tool, there are some pretty cool benefits from using it. For one, it really makes you focus on your form. Whenever I use it, I can’t help but try to ensure that I’m using the Perfect Pushup the way it was intended. There’s a lot of thought that goes into rotating the handles, forcing the user to completely be immersed into the exercise. On that point, this equipment makes complete sense. Secondly, it does appear as though pushups are harder to complete when using the Perfect Pushup. Your core muscles in your abs and chest get engaged, you feel the sharp, focused burn in your arms and the body is in line with itself.

All in all, the Perfect Pushup can be a useful piece of equipment that I’d like to try to put more into my rotation. But its just that sometimes in the heat of a workout, I tend to forget where the heck I put the damn things because they’re so portable and small. Hmm… I suppose I should really get to those things – I think they’re feeling lonely

Here’s to dusting them off tonight! Cheers!
